Screen printing is one of the oldest and most versatile printing methods in use today. The screen printing technique is an industry standard and favorite utilized by underground designers all the way up to massive production warehouses. Screen printing, sometimes referred to as “silk screening,” works by creating a custom stencil on a tightly woven mesh screen. This stencil either allows ink to flow freely through openings in the mesh, or stay above the stencil surface. When the stencil or “screen” is positioned over the T-shirt or item to be printed on, ink is spread across across the stencil surface with a blade or squeegee, imprinting the custom design into the garment.
